Artist Statement
I started writing as a way to express my own thoughts and experiences to others, creating a connection between reader and writer, whilst making a space where many with hidden struggles can feel understood and seen. As an artist, I focus my work on the feelings that people lock away and struggle to express, trying to give rise to voices that would normally stay lost in ones own struggles. I focus on finding the balance between vocalizing thoughts and feelings that each of us has and leaving things up to interpretation for others to see themselves inside of the works. Each piece I’ve worked on was crafted as a way to show a lens of empathy in the hopes that I can pass on what it means to connect with and understand one another to others, especially onto the younger generation. My work on The Flow of Emptiness, a personal book about my writings, is meant to reflect this by showing different spots of my life how my views shifted. Post-Graduation, I am hoping to become an English Literature teacher, so I can convey to my students what it means to be human through the lens of empathy.
